Toys for Tots

Background

Toys for Tots began in 1947 and in 1991 at the request of the Marine Corps, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation was established to help run and support the Toys for Tots program. On a national level, more than 7,000,000 toys are distributed at Christmas to needy children. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity.

In 2020, 26,163 toys were distributed to 6,214 children in our region of Brunswick and Columbus counties; 97% of funds raised go to purchasing toys to make up the shortfall in donated toys. St. James Woodworkers made and donated about 100 toys to the 2020 effort.

Locally the need is great.

St. James Woodworkers Toy Drive

Our goal is to donate a minimum of 100 toys. Our website has a sample of toy plans and safe construction guidelines. You are not limited to these plans, but remember … safe toys (see guidelines.

Please e-mail us (stjameswoodworkers@gmail.com) if you will be stepping up to make a toy, or lots of toys. All toys must be complete and turned in by November 1, 2021.

Please affix your name to each toy with your name printed on masking tape (for tracking purposes as to who is participating; the tape will be removed prior to donation).

Please step up, make a toy and put a smile on a child’s face on Christmas morning.
