St. James Woodworkers Toys-for-Tots Handoff Ceremony, Tuesday, Nov. 16

2 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2021
2820 Harborside Way

Major Bruce Brown USMC (Ret.), Assistant Coordinator, Calabash Campaign, Toys for Tots, will be attending in Marine dress uniform to accept the handcrafted wooden toys made by members of St. James Woodworkers.

This year, a team of St. James Woodworkers again made games, cars, trucks and vehicles of all kinds, cradles, and puzzles for the Brunswick County Toys for Tots Program for the holiday season, more than doubling what they produced last year. This is the second annual toymaking event.

About 20 members of the organization were instrumental in making more than 200 heirloom-quality toys this year. The team worked together in creating original patterns, cutting out toys, making wheels for vehicles, sanding, finishing and final assembly. All toys are finished with child-safe finishes and paints.

According to Major Brown, Toys for Tots representatives will match toys with appropriate-age children in Brunswick County.

The handoff will take place at 2820 Harborside Way in St. James, Tuesday, November 16, 2021, 2 p.m. The entire collection of toys will be displayed prior to the official handoff to Toys for Tots.

Members of the core toy team include Gary Mlynek along with Terry Cooke, Dan Griffith, Mike Guthrie, Angela McGreevy, Dick Meyer, Joe Raiti, Joe Steele, Bruce Williams and Joe Zukowski. These toymakers, along with others, will be at the handoff ceremony to present the donation to the community.
